About Ephesus

The ancient city of Ephesus, located near the Aegean Sea in modern day Turkey, was one of the great cities of the Greeks in Asia Minor. In ancient times Ephesus was the home of the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Today, the ruins of Ephesus are a major tourist attraction, especially for travelers on Mediterranean cruises. Ephesus remains a sacred site for Christians due to its association with several biblical figures, including St. Paul, St. John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary.

About House of the Virgin Mary

The House of the Virgin Mary, located in a nature park between Ephesus and Seljuk, is believed to be the last residence of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. The peaceful site is sacred to both Christians and Muslims, and is visited by many tourists and pilgrims.

According to predominant Christian tradition, Mary was brought to Ephesus by the Apostle John after the Resurrection of Christ and lived out her days there. This is based mainly on the traditional belief that John came to Ephesus combined with the biblical statement that Jesus consigned her to John's care (John 19:26-27).

About Sirince

Sirince is a wonderful little Aegean village of 600 inhabitants. Most of the houses in the village date from the 19th century or earlier. They were built at a time when Sirince was predominantly a Greek village. The village lies in a lovely bowl of hills surrounded by peach orchards, vineyards and olive groves. The higher hills are covered with pine forest. Nearly all houses command a pastoral panorama extending over many miles, undisturbed by any modern development. The surroundings are full of idyllic country walks.

PROGRAM

Kusadasi indeed is a perfect getaway for tourists, truly a wonderful escapade to paradise.

Kusadasi is usually said to be one of the most beautiful cities facing the Aegean Sea since the scenery and landscape of the area is just as fascinatingly beautiful as its history. It has been a center of art and culture not only of Turkey but also of many civilizations since it was founded in 3000 B.C. Today, it resembles a modern European city. Because of its hot Mediterranean climate for roughly 92% of the year, so Kusadasi has become one of the most traveled destinations in Europe.

The Kusadasi city has an open sea side at the back of the peninsula, where public beaches are located. Among the most popular swimming spots in town is the Ladies Beach, town beach, Bird Island Beach and on and on.

Kusadasi offers top class restaurants, a number of aqua parks, high-starred hotels and beach bars. Along with such amenities is Turkey’s natural scenery of open beaches lined with palm trees, blue waters and clear skies, and historical sites that are Turkey’s memoirs of the past.

Pigeon Island

Pigeon Island, with its gleaming image, really deserves to be symbol of Kusadasi. The eye-catching view of the island, uniting with the panoramic colors of sunset attract every visitors. As the island was much-frequented place of birds during the seasonal migrations, it was named as Bird Island.

HALF DAY IZMIR TOUR

Duration: 4 Hours

Fare: 20

Price includes  transportation and guidance. Entrance fees and meals are not included.

PROGRAM

Start with a drive to the top of Mount Pagus which rises above the city center. Enjoy the panoramic views of the city and Bay of Izmir from the walls of Kadifekale, an ancient fortress built by Alexander the Great. Visit the city's symbol, its Ottoman Clock Tower. Finally, penetrate its elaborate bazaar (one of my favorites in all of Turkey) which stretches for blocks. You can see the best of Izmir in only 4 hours!

Kadifekale (on Mt. Pagos). Kadifekale (or ‘Velvet Castle’) was supposedly built after Alexander the Great received a vision in the 4th century BC. Many antiquities belonging to the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman times found here can be seen in the İzmir Archeology Museum.

Kemeraltı, İzmir’s Old Bazaar. Kemeraltı is the crowded trade area where Ottoman-style buildings abound. This area has a rich cultural heritage thanks to its old streets, squares, historical and religious buildings.

Hisar Mosque (1592), Kestane Bazaar Mosque (1663), Kemeraltı Mosque (1671), Kızlarağası Inn (1741), Konak Yalı Mosque (1754), Ethnography Museum (1831), The Clock Tower are among the multicultural elements that have decorated the city for hundreds of years.

Pergamon was a small settlement during the Archaic Period. Lysimachos, one of the generals of Alexander the Great and who had become the sovereign of Anatolia after 301 B.C., delivered the war expenditures, at the amount of 9000 talents (1 talent is believed to be US$ 7,500 approx.), to Philetarios who was the commander of Pergamon, and the kingdom founded by Philetarios by using this sum of money following Lysimachos's death, flourished and became the most eminent center of culture of the Hellenistic period for 150 years. Eumenes I, Attalos I and Eumenes II were enthroned successively after Philetarios.
